Students, First-I miss you! :) Second, Mrs. Pittman received an email from a breast cancer patient, and she wanted to share it with everyone. I am so proud of you for the way that you have touched so many lives! Here's the email:
I received this email today and wanted to share the content with you. Our 5th graders last year chose to have Exhibition focus on how cancer affects lives. While their biggest piece of their action plan was not able to happen they regrouped and figured out how to still reach out to those dealing with cancer. I know they were successful.
Dear Fifth Grade Students,
Today I was diagnosed with c...ancer and I haven't had my 40th birthday yet! I left Dr. Kang's office at Virginia Oncology Associates feeling a little empty and confused. On my way out, I saw a "splash" of purple and gold in a basket near the door. I thought that it was candy, but soon realized it was a gift from all of you. It was a gift of "HOPE" . . . and it was exactly what I needed.
Please let the students know that when they do good deeds like this in life... you may not always see the benefit, but SOMEONE SOMEWHERE is very appreciative. I'm sure that I am not the only one.
Thank you very much for LITERALLY giving me HOPE!
Mrs. Tamarqua Connors
I am so very proud to have been the principal to these world citizens. I know that this is but the beginning of their efforts to make a difference.
Welcome to Ms. Day's 5th grade class at Dutrow IB School!
June 15, 2012: Rising 6th graders, it has been a privilege to be your teacher this year. You have done amazing things to show what skilled learners you are, as well as what compassionate and understanding young adults you are becoming. What you have done for the Relay for Life fundraising, as well as what you have done to raise awareness for the cause of breast cancer has been amazing to watch and be a part of. Thanks for making this such a terrific year. I look forward to hearing your success stories in the years to come.
Sincerely, Ms. Day
My name is Heather Day and I am new to Dutrow Elementary School this year. However, I'm not new to teaching, as this is my 14th year in the classroom! I have previously taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades, and can't wait to work with my students and their families here at Dutrow.
Here are a few things about me, just in case you're curious. . . -I have an 8 year old daughter, Mackenzie, who is entering the 3rd grade -I love running and am a huge fan of weight lifting. -Reading is my hands-down favorite subject :) -I am a 2.5 year breast cancer survivor!
Please check this website on a weekly basis, as I will use it to keep you informed of homework assignments, upcoming quizzes, test, and projects. You may also click on the "Contact Me" tab to get a direct link to my e-mail. I am looking forward to this year and working with each of my 5th graders!
